We decided to try our urban garden again this year. With the 2020 pandemic, we gave our first try at planting a vegetable garden. We did amazing considering it was our first time ever planting food out in the yard. But we learned a lot of things and are trying to improve our processes.
Our setup for sprouting seeds has improved. In 2020, we had a plant tray full of seeds with a grow light above it that was supported by cereal boxes. We also weren't sure what we were doing, so we only did these 2 small trays. Only about half of our seedlings made it, but we took what we had and moved on.
This year, we set up some plastic shelving in the garage and zip-tied the grow lights to the underside of the shelves. We leave the lights on almost all the time, and due to it being cold still at times, we placed a heater nearby to try and keep the temperature adequate for the seeds. We have 4 trays this time. I guess you could say that we are feeling confident.
